Pancakes, Pancakes, Pancakes!

Today in Little Ossies we made pancakes.  We started off by reading a story about a little boy who wanted a pancake for breakfast.  It was a story by the author who wrote “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and we worked out that it was written a long time ago.  We figured this out because the boy used a candle instead of a torch to find something in the cellar and because there was a wood fire to cook the pancake over, not an electric stove.

We used the same recipe as Eric Carle’s book to make our pancakes:  1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk and 1 egg.  We also squeezed a tiny dribble of honey into the mixture to make the pancakes slightly sweeter.

We used different pieces of equipment to do our cooking. We had a cup measure, a bowl, a spoon and a whisk.

We mixed the egg and milk in a different bowl before we tipped it into the flour.

We had to whisk the mixture really well so there were no lumps in it. We are really good at stirring so the mixture doesn't come out of the bowl.

When we cooked the pancakes in the frying pan we did lots of counting to make sure we had enough pancakes for everyone in the room. We were able to cook 9 little pancakes at a time (as well as one teeny tiny little pancake).

Our golden pancakes were delicious.

We ate the pancakes either plain or with a drizzle of honey on them. Yummo!
