Making butter

We investigated making butter.

First we read the book Belinda by Pamela Allen. Mrs H loves Pamela Allen. She is one of her favourite authors. Because Belinda wouldn’t let Old Tom  milk her, Old Tom couldn’t make butter for his bread. So we did it.IMGP1654

We started with cream in a jar and we added 3 marbles to help mix it up. Then we shook and shook and shook the jar of cream. Everybody shook the jar and some of the cream started to spray out. We shook and shook and we counted the shakes. Guess how many shakes it took to make the cream turn into butter?

It took 587 shakes until we had butter.CIMG5996 - Copy

Can you see the butter and the buttermilk here?

We cut the bread into halves and then quarters and spread our bread with butter. Yum, yum!

  1. Yum, yum! Very clever everyone. Wow! Over 500 shakes. Were there some sore arms? I’m sure the effort was worth it. 🙂
