In Little Ossies this week we have taken our learning all over the school.
We started the week in our classroom reflecting about what happened on the long weekend. We all came up with our own stories which we drew at our easel and then painted over the black marks later in the week.
Then after recess we went on a walk around the school to see what has been changing in our garden. We were lucky enough to find our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Gardening Expert, Simone, out there. Simone spent some time showing us what is currently growing in the gardens at school. She even let us taste some of the edible leaves and flowers which were growing in the gardens.
Finding silverbeet, celery and beetroots.
Tasting some Nasturtium leaves and flowers. They tasted very peppery.
We also could try some broccoli flowers. They tasted just like broccoli!
In the oval garden we were shown a local resident who has set up house in the little greenhouses.
Where the frogs like to live.
We looked at the temperature of a compost pile.
And found water chestnuts in the little pond.
Some of us even set up a “Rock Shop” in the willow hut.
There was an extra lettuce which was ready to be harvested when we were in the garden, so we had one Little Ossie explain what had been done to pick the lettuce (roots and all).
We took the lovely lettuce back to our classroom and we all had a try of the lettuce leaves. Some of us even added it into our sandwiches – delicious!
The lettuce was delicious in our sandwiches from home.
Some of the lettuce leaves were bigger than our sandwiches!
This was the only part left of the lettuce by the end of lunch!
Stay tuned for more of the Little Ossies learning out and about this week.
