Eddy Teddy

This is Eddy.

Eddy Teddy

Eddy Teddy

Eddy is a teddy bear who is about to go on a big adventure.  He is going to get on an aeroplane to visit a place on the other side of the world. But before he can go, he needs to have a passport. So Little Ossies have been very busy making one for him.

The Little Ossies looked at a real passport and noticed lots of different things on each page, so now Eddy has his own special passport.

The cover needed to have special writing so that Immigration will know that it is Eddy's passport.

Some of the Little Ossies noticed that in the real passport there were pictures of Australian animals on each page, so Eddy’s passport has a different Australian animal on each page too.

Fire Safety Investigations Continue

This last week in Little Ossies we have continued to find out more about Fire Safety.

We were very privileged to have some CFA clothing brought in to school for us to have a look at. The clothes were very big on us!

A big thank you to Mr McLean who sent in his CFA gear for us to explore (via his lovely wife Mrs McLean) – it was such a treat to see them.

We did a walk around our school to find some of the things which are at our school to keep us safe.  There were signs and some equipment for grown-ups to use if there was a fire.  There were also some things which were in the school which only the Fire Brigade would use, so we knew not to touch them.  It was really interesting to see all the things at school which help keep us safe.

Out and About at Osborne

In Little Ossies this week we have taken our learning all over the school.

We started the week in our classroom reflecting about what happened on the long weekend.  We all came up with our own stories which we drew at our easel and then painted over the black marks later in the week.

Then after recess we went on a walk around the school to see what has been changing in our garden. We were lucky enough to find our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Gardening Expert, Simone, out there. Simone spent some time showing us what is currently growing in the gardens at school.  She even let us taste some of the edible  leaves and flowers which were growing in the gardens.

We also could try some broccoli flowers. They tasted just like broccoli!

There was an extra lettuce which was ready to be harvested when we were in the garden, so we had one Little Ossie explain what had been done to pick the lettuce (roots and all).

We took the lovely lettuce back to our classroom and we all had a try of the lettuce leaves. Some of us even added it into our sandwiches – delicious!

Master Chef, look out!

These pirate pizza chefs have had a fun and tasty time. Tomorrow the ‘princesses’ are going to use the pirates’ recipes to create their own princess pizzas too.  If you haven’t guessed already, we are doing all things ‘p’ this week. We currently have a pirate crew-stew on the boil too, awaiting tasting tomorrow.  Guess what’s in it……pasta, peas, parsnip and potato, just to name a few of the ingredients. Stay tuned for the secret ingredient!!!

Pet books in Prep

During investigations about pets, one of our wonderful Preps created her own book.

She typed the sentences on the computer and then printed them out.

Next she found pictures of pets in a magazine and stuck them in her book. She disocvered an amazing pet. Look at her last page to see.

Emergency!

In Little Ossies this week we have been looking at who helps us in an emergency.  We had a practice of our school evacuation procedure last week and since then we have been looking at all sorts of different things which keep us safe.

To begin our week we decided that we wanted to change our hospital corner into a fire station, but we couldn’t have a fire station without a fire engine in it. So we got busy making.

We started to make a fire truck by turning a table upside-down and putting some big pieces of paper around it.

When the table had been surrounded in paper, we had to make it look more like a fire engine - so out came the red paint!

Our Fire Truck is well-used in the fire station now.

We brainstormed ideas of what else might be needed in a fire station, apart from a fire engine. We came up with lots of ideas, one being making sure there were ladders. So we got out materials to make ladders in teams.

We tried one lot of materials for a first go at making a ladder, but it wasn't working very well.

So we kept trying with some different materials. These ones worked much better.

We also found that it was much easier to work as a team to make a ladder than if you worked on your own. Luckily we are all really good at being team members in Little Ossies!

During the week we also looked up the website (http://www.mfbkidzone.com.au/) to find out more information about fire fighters. We learnt a lot more about one piece of equipment which we have in all of our homes; a smoke alarm. Some Little Ossies weren’t sure if they had a smoke alarm at their house, so they sent a special email to their Mums and Dads to ask them to look for the smoke alarm at their house that night. Some Little Ossies took photos and sent them back so we could see the different smoke alarms. (You may recognise some of them in the photos below!)

Some Little Ossies even tested out their smoke alarms at home! When did you last test your smoke alarm at your house?
