This last week in Little Ossies we have started to create some items for a supermarket in our classroom.
Some Little Ossies and their families have been collecting food packaging at home and we have started to sort it into different categories. A few of the different categories we have thought we could have in our supermarket are ‘Treats”, “Fridge things”, “Freezer things” and “Meat”.
The class have discussed different items which you can purchase at a supermarket and have set about creating some of the items themselves.
To begin with we made some fruit and vegetables.
Then we started to make items for the packaging which we had received from peoples homes.
Next week we will continue to add more produce to our special supermarket and create signs for the shelves.
Can you think of anything else we might need for our own supermarket in Little Ossies?

Everyone enjoyed a great night either singing, dancing or watching the Concert. Here are a some photos of the yellow crayons and some recounts of the night.
Last night was the Prep Concert. First we got ready with our pictures. Then we showed the Mums and Dads.
Then we went on stage and sang the rainbow song to the parents and then we quit drawing.
and we danced.
I liked the Rainbow song and I liked the yellow submarine song. (Angus AJ and Jake’s recount)

What a wonderful concert. Well done to all the preps and the wonderful Mrs JJ who organised it all and a big WELL DONE to the green crayons too. Some of them were keen to share some of their excitement from last night so,
have a peek at some of what they wrote about their wonderful show.
I liked it when I posed and I liked the blue crayons bit too. I liked a little bit of the yellow crayons but I like the green crayons the best. My mummy and dad came to see me. I was nervous but I loved it.
I liked the bit about the blue crayons song and the part about the yellow crayons too. My dad and mummy came. They said I was wonderful and I felt proud. My dinosaur suit was great for a green crayon and it was warm.
I liked the part when I did the piano. My mums and dads (that’s because the O’Shaughnesseys were my extra mum and dad this week) came and so did my friends Declan, Chloe and Zoe. I felt nervous for a little bit at the start and then I felt great. I did all the moves for all the other coloured crayons too while we were watching their parts. It was so much fun and I even did bows for them too. I feel very proud of my performance.
I loved the bit when I did the tree dance. My friend and my family came to see me and they really enjoyed it. I loved my costume. The pants were new and my glasses were big and green but you could still see all of my face. The concert was fun and I feel proud and confident.
I liked it best when I did the leaf part. Grandma came and Mum and Dad came too.
I really enjoyed doing the “Everything is Awesome” song and I was very excited when my mum smiled at me. I feel really proud and my mum says that I could grow up and be music teacher like Mrs JJ is.
I really loved the part of our dance for the old piano. My mummy came and she bought me my clothes from an Indian shop. They are really beautiful and I felt really confident. I had lots of fun.
I liked the Lego movie song the best. My mum came to the concert and my dad and uncle came too. I liked doing the poses and I liked the blue crayon songs. I was a bit nervous but I did it all and it was fun and I feel really good about it.
I really liked it when the Lego movie song came on and I liked it when we mooshed in. I also liked it when the blue crayons did their pose and I loved it when the Happy song came on. I was a bit nervous in the concert but I did it. I did everything and it was awesome. I feel really proud today.
I liked it when we were saying “I quit!” and I realled liked it when were dancing. I felt nervous at the start but it was good fun.
I really enjoyed the piano bit and I like the quitting too. My mum, dad and Charlie were there and my mum’s mum and dad came to see the concert too. I felt really excited. I was a bit nervous at the start and then it went away. I had a great time.
I was very excited. I felt nervous and I had butterflies in my tummy but I kept on going. I was very tired afterwards. I really liked the part in the dance where we did the old piano. I feel very proud of myself.
I really enjoyed the trees part of our dance and I loved when we did the moosh and the cool eyes. I felt nervous but I was confident and it was fun. My mum and dad came and they think that I could be a rock star.
My whole family came. I read the letter to Duncan from the green crayons and I made it very interesting because I did expression with my reading. I loved the poses at the end of our dance. The concert was great. I think we could do another one now. I would like to do Blossom Possum.
I liked when I did the poses and I really liked when I was a tree and when we said “I quit!” My mum and dad and grandma came. I felt a little nervous at the start but I was confident and I had a great time.

We had a visit from a couple of very interersting insects today.
They were very quiet, didn’t eat much and made no mess at all but they were very, very tricky to see. It was hard to see which was the leaf and which was the insect! We even observed one swaying in the wind, just like a brown leaf. The baby one was very small so we left it in its cage. We even saw the outside skin of one which had shed its skin. There are still lots of eggs in the cage so we are expecting to hear all about the new baby stick insects soon. We discovered that they eat the gum leaves, they have 6 legs, antanae and 3 body parts and that the curled up tail bit is its abdomen. Fascinating.

Just like Henry in Nick Bland’s story ‘When Henry Caught Imaginitus’ Prep H too have caught it. Prep B were very inspirational and so Prep H were able to have lots of fun imagining the letter ‘i’ as part of something completely different.
We also enjoyed reading “That’s not a Daffodil” and guessing what the little boy was going to say about each stage of the daisy’s growth and we all agreed that it is wonderful book to read. Have you read it?

This week we looked at the letter i but in a different way.
These are the letters we started with on our whiteboards.
Look how creative we were changing these letters into……
What would you change the i’s into?

On Thursday this week the Little Ossies, along with the rest of the school, celebrated the 20 years of service which Mrs Flanagan has given Osborne Primary School.
We had to make a special page for a book for Mrs Flanagan where all the Little Ossies were possums in Mrs Flanagan’s office. We had remembered the funny story which Mrs Flanagan had told us in Term One this year, where we had made a book about it.
You can see the Little Ossies page by clicking on this link. Goodbye Mrs Flanagan
We also wore lots of black and red accessories. Some people made hats, some people twisted pipe-cleaners to make bracelets and rings, some people had black and red accessories from their home.
Mrs Flanagan is a passionate Essendon supporter and the school became special Essendon supporters for her assembly. We hope Mrs Flanagan liked her sea of black and red. There were some people who found it a bit tricky to wear the black and red colours because they go for other football teams, but we knew this was a special treat for Mrs Flanagan.
We will miss you Mrs Flanagan, enjoy your retirement.

In one week’s time the proud Preps will be performing in their amazing musical, The Day The Crayons Quit, created and directed by the very talented Mrs JJ. As is the way in prep, all learning is interwoven across the curriculum and so today in ICT with Mr Sharp they created their very own advertisements for this terrific concert. Their talents keep building and building! Just wait till you see them performing. You will be truly amazed!
