On Wednesday night we had our special school concert.
The Little Ossies joined the Prep children in singing 2 special songs up on stage. It was lots of fun being able to join our Prep friends in singing songs for all of our families.
The Little Ossies and Preps sang from up on the stage in the gym.
They sang the songs “We Wish You A Ripper Christmas” and “Prickly Hay”. They remembered all the words and actions. WOW!
What a brave bunch of children the Little Ossies and Preps are!
We’re pretty sure that our families who came to the concert were really proud of us for performing and being brave.
The teachers certainly are very proud of what the Little Ossies and Preps have accomplished!
There were even some of the teachers who were brave enough to get up and perform!
What a delightful concert it was! (We wonder what we will get to perform next year?!?)

In Little Ossies we have been wondering how Santa can visit our classroom, particularly as we didn’t have a chimney at school. So we decided to take matters into our own hands…
We started by getting another polling booth and painting it brown.
We found another good use for a polling booth!
Then we made some bricks to make our chimney and fireplace look real.
There were lots of bricks which needed to be stuck on the fireplace and chimney.
When we had finished the chimney we thought that Mrs Anderson might like it for the office, so we carefully transported it down to her room.
Mrs Anderson wasn’t in the office, so we left the chimney in her office to surprise her.
When Mrs Anderson came back she got a big surprise to see that her office was transformed. She had to check that Santa wasn’t stuck in the chimney already.
Mrs Anderson checked to see if she could hear Santa from in the fireplace. We think she heard a faint “Ho, Ho, Ho” from up the chimney!
You might need to visit the office to see if you can find the fireplace and chimney now!

This week Little Ossies have been hard at work preparing our classroom for Christmas.
We have started to make a special something to give to our families. And of course it goes without saying; it will be spectacular!
Obviously we can’t reveal what we are working on, but needless to say a lot of effort is going into making this gift.
We have also started preparing to make a special area in our room, ready to help a “big-bellied fella in a red and white suit”.
We transformed a booth from the weekend’s election by cutting out a curvy shape to make it look like Santa’s Sleigh.
We then got out LOTS of red paint and got busy roller painting.
We had to use lots of our teamwork skills to paint our group project. Particularly when you have 4 people working in the small area of the back of the sleigh!
We can’t wait to get busy in Santa’s Christmas Workshop next week!
This week we have also started looking at a special sort of calendar. While we normally look at calendar in our classroom every day, this calendar is one which we do on the Interactive WhiteBoard (IWB). It is an advent calendar which has a new activity for us to look at and interact with everyday. The calendar also has fun games and puzzles which we are really enjoying doing. The calendar is set in a European Outdoor Market.
Completing one of the many puzzles available in the Advent Calendar. This one was a real challenge at 42 pieces.
There is also a Christmas Cookie Memory Game. The game is timed so you can try to beat your own best time.
On Friday we discovered a special stall in the market which sold Christmas decorations. The shop kept us busy, because we had to decorate the baubles.
We wonder what will be coming up in our Market next week.

The last week of November the Preps looked at the sound ‘ch’.
We had some grade six girls bring in 4 ‘chicks’ to show us –
This is Bob and Fred
This is Stevie and Mildred.
In Prep W we were also looking at how food ‘changes’ when cooking. We looked at Popcorn and what happens when you add heat to the popcorn seeds.
First we put one cup of uncooked popcorn into the Crazy Popper.
Then we watched it spin around inside very fast and it was getting hotter and hotter — can you see what is happening?
Then this started happening and it really was a crazy popper …
The best part of making our pop corn was eating it at the end!!

These last few weeks in Little Ossies we have been focussing on post and writing letters to each other.
We have created a street of houses in a Little Ossies street. Each house has a letterbox on it and most importantly the house number, so our postal workers will be able to deliver letters to the correct houses.
Part of our Post Office and Little Ossies Street.
We had to order our houses so the Postal Workers would know which house to deliver letters to.
We also had some houses from 1 to 20 which we had to put in order and deliver letters to.
Some Little Ossies even put a timer on to see how quickly they could deliver the letters to houses.
A song which we have been singing this week in Little Ossies is called “The Silly Postman”. “The Silly Postman” has words where the Postman delivers things other than letters into a letterbox. The “Silly Postman” delivers a letter, frog, mouse, spider and snail on different days of the week. We then decided that we might make some of the letterboxes where the Postman delivered these items. We numbered the order in which they were delivered and some people even wrote the days of the week that they were delivered.
What a lot of wonderful work we have done these weeks!
(We hope that you don’t have a silly postman delivering letters to your house!)

These last few weeks in Little Ossies we have been saying goodbye to a couple of special people from Osborne.
Firstly we have said goodbye to Mr Sheppard, our school’s maintenance helper. Little Ossies have had lots of fun with Mr Sheppard this year; one day we had heard a scratching sound on our wall and wondered if it was a giant mouse, but it was only Mr Sheppard fixing a wall next to our classroom. We will miss him, so we made him a special toolbox for him to take away with him.
Mr Sheppard’s special toolbox
We filled the toolbox with lots of special items, including a couple of giant mice, cheese for them to eat, a cat to chase the mice away and some tools.
Mr Sheppard loved the presents inside his toolbox.
This last week had another goodbye, this time to our SRI teacher, Mrs Burgess.
Singing a Christmas song together with Mrs Burgess.
The Little Ossies had a fun time singing a song about Christmas and playing instruments (practicing for an SRI concert next week).
We were able to make Mrs Burgess a special big card with lots of pictures and some writing about what we have enjoyed doing with her this year and to say thank you.
Mrs Burgess loved her card and special gift.
We will miss you Mr Sheppard and Mrs Burgess.

In Little Ossies we have been involved in lots of planning for a very special piece of artwork.
We are lucky enough to have a beautiful glass door which leads into our Little Ossies classroom from outside and have been decorating it with paintings. Not just any sort of painting though.
All the Little Ossies have thought about or researched different sea creatures and then drawn a plan of what the sea creature will look like. From the plan the sea creature was then painted on the door, so that it could be seen from the outside of the classroom. It took a long time to paint the door, especially because we had to wait for the paint to dry before we could paint another creature nearby.
One of the plans for the door. This is the plan for a Goldfish.
Painting a Great White Shark.
Painting a Hammerhead Shark.
Our partially painted door.
We are just waiting for a final couple of paintings to be done for our ‘Under the Sea’ door to be complete.
We’re sure you will agree, it is looking pretty amazing already!

Prep B really enjoyed their week of swimming. Their swimming improved each day and it was wonderful to watch everyone having such fun and learning how to be safe around water. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE MUMS AND DADS that came to help too. Well done everyone.
Swimming, floating and jumping was fun!
It’s sad our week of swimming is done.
But Christmas is coming and there’s still lots to do
So keep reading here for learning that’s new!
