Proud and Persistent at the Pool

Day three of swimming and…..  fun, learning, progress and pride are continuing to flow. Look at these action shots of  Preps proud of their achievements. CIMG6631 CIMG6633 CIMG6636 CIMG6637 CIMG6641 CIMG6644 CIMG6646

Just look at the pride on faces of these very, very, very proud Preps! They faced challenges and they succeeded……and…..CIMG6647

….still had enough energy to happily walk all the way back to school afterwards.

Splash, Splash, Bubble, Bubble, Swim, Walk, Walk, Walk.

It’s swimming week for the Preps and my, oh my, we surely are having a super time. We walk there and back each day, dry and dress ourselves AND have a ball in the pool. Lots of mums and dads have been helping out too and their happy faces show that they too are really enjoying swimming week (although you do need to dress for very warm weather by the poolside).

Here are a few snaps from day one.

Prep and Little Ossies number walk …

Last week we had a great mini excursion to the Dunns Road park … we were searching for numbers!!

The students could not believe where we can find numbers … numbers are EVERYWHERE!

What a fun way of learning about numbers. We counted how many apples on the play ground, how many links on the swings, how many connections on the climbing frame and saw numbers on the bus stop and speed sign.

Numbers, Numbers Everywhere!

Today Little Ossies joined their Prep friends for a Number Walk.

The walk wasn’t only in the school though – we walked down the street to see where we could see different numbers.

We took clipboards with us to record the different numbers that we saw.

We had to be very careful because we also practised our road safety skills while we were looking for numbers.

We found numbers on street signs.

We found numbers on boats and car number plates.

Little Ossies did a fantastic job finding all sorts of numerals out and about.

When it was time to head back to school we did some counting, both forwards and backwards to check the number of students who were there from each class.
What a lot of marvellous maths we have in the world around us!

Wow what a week …

The past week at Osborne we have had some fun learning happening.

On Monday we had Mrs. Burgess bring in one of her baby lambs to show us.

Tuesday we had the Mornington Secondary School band come and perform for Osborne and introduce many of us to instruments we would never have seen or heard before.

We were very sneaky and went and had a look at the Fire Engine that came and visited the Grade 1’s.

Friday we worked with Prep B and made our very own Volcanoes in the sandpit.

Who would have thought that learning could be so much fun!!!!

THE OSBORNE CARTOON CHARACTERS WALKATON

It was a beautiful, warm sunny morning for our Osborne Walkathon. We all dressed up as a cartoon character. DSC01637

First we assembled on the basketball court with our buddies. DSC01608

When we got to the Dunns Road park, the Walkathon began and we walked and walked and did LOTS of laps around the park. DSC01610 DSC01611 Can you guess who the cartoon characters are? DSC01624

When we got tired, we stopped and had a rest and a drink of water. DSC01622 DSC01625 It was great to see Bananas in Pyjamas at the Walkathon!!DSC01627 DSC01628

After an hour of walking laps, it was the end of the Walkathon and time to walk back to school. We felt very proud of ourselves. Everyone had put in a fantastic effort! We all agreed it had been a great fun experience!DSC01635 DSC01634

Walkathon

On Friday 17th October Little Ossies joined the rest of the school in a Walkathon.

We dressed up in Cartoon Character costumes or came in our school uniform.

For the Walkathon we had to walk outside of school and down the road to the Dunn’s Road park.

We walked to the park with our 4W buddies.

We had lots of helpers who came to the park with us. Some of the Mums and Dads who came did lots of walking with us. They also said lots of encouraging things as the Little Ossies walked around the Walkathon circuit. Some little sisters even came along for the day too.

Thank you to all the Little Ossies parents who were able to come and support us at the Walkathon.

When the Walkathon was over we walked back to school just in time for a quick snack and recess play.
After recess we worked out the number of laps which we had all done and recorded this in a book.
When we got back to school we recorded what we wore and the number of laps we did in the Walkathon in a special book.

S Sightings

These first few weeks back at school have been very busy with many things S.
We have been playing with s things, like sea creatures

We have pretended we are swimming under the sea with all the sea creatures and shells.

The sea creatures chat a lot to each other!

We have started to make some sea creatures to hang up around the room. We had to use scissors and staplers to make these.

First you had to draw the sea creature you wanted to make.

We are now in the process of painting our sea creatures so it looks like we are swimming under the sea in more of our classroom.

We have also been out and about in our school yard finding signs with the letter S on it.

On Thursday we had some special visitors who came in to visit us in class. They were Miss Griffiths’ nephews who Little Ossies have been wanting to meet for a while.

We had some special visitors who came in and sang some songs with us too.

Fun learning with investigations again.

With eight days back at school for term 4, lots of learning and learning fun is being had by all. Following our focus on /qu/ words some of the team have been investigating queens and their costumes. Queen Elizabeth has been of particular interest to some and the interactive whiteboard has given a big clear look on the internet as part of our research. Crowns and gowns have featured highly on the interest scale too. Team work has been a big factor and planning for our activities has been the current centre of attention.

CIMG6578 CIMG6579 CIMG6580

Quizzes have featured highly on the interest list this week and you will be totally amazed with the complex, challenging and interesting questions complied by the students on their areas of expertise, including world soccer, footy, maths and even Scoobie-Doo. As well as composing and  writing out their question cards, competitor lists and setting up their quiz corners,  they have also been involved in creating quiz and joke books to be enjoyed by all. Look at these young lads hitting the bell to answer first in their sport quiz questions.

CIMG6577

When I learn how to easily upload a video to our blog you’ll be able to see AND hear this amazing Batman story written by this enthusiastic author but until then this photo will have to suffice. It is a very entertaining story indeed.

CIMG6575

Knock-knock jokes have featured highly too and in keeping  with the theme of our upcoming ‘cartoon character walk-a-thon’ we even have some Ninja Turtle joke books and stories being created.

Stay tuned for further updates.
